Pentecost at Pilgrim

Fifty days after Easter, Christians celebrate Pentecost, marking the day Jesus' disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The story can be found in the second chapter of Acts.  As the story was told, the disciples were afraid and in hiding, but on this day they heard a great wind and saw flames of fire above one another's heads.  They fled into the streets and a great crowd gathered around them.  The crowd, in Jerusalem for holiday, heard the disciples speaking in many different languages.  For the Christian church, this occasion is often regarded as "the birth of the church."

Pilgrim is a progressive, mainline Christian congregation. On Pentecost we read the story in Acts and consider what it means for us to receive the Holy Spirit.  This year, Pentecost is May 19.  Worship with us at 10:00.

Pilgrim's services are regularly broadcast on cable television, channel 7, on Wednesdays at 3:30 and 8:00 pm and Thursdays at 7:00 a.m.
